HOLLYWOOD, FL - A man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed a motor scooter rider in Hollywood last year, NBC Miami reports.

The accident occurred Dec. 19, 2021 along the 5400 block of Stirling Road at about 9 p.m.  Police said 18-year-old Isaiah Dameon Lafleur was driving east in a Chevrolet Camaro and trying to pass another vehicle when he collided with a Yamaha motor scooter.  The scooter rider was ejected and was killed.

According to police, Lafleur was driving at about 72 miles an hour in a 45 miles an hour zone as he attempted to pass the other car when he hit the scooter, which had all of its lights on and was signaling a lane change at the time.

Lafleur was cited initially at the crash scene after a witness said he got out to check on the victim.

He surrendered this week at the Broward County Jail to face charges of vehicular homicide and reckless driving.
