News: Driver and passenger killed when car crashes into Lauderdale Lakes bus stop

LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office reports it is investigating a deadly car accident that occurred Saturday morning in Lauderdale Lakes.

The single-vehicle crash involved a Mercedes-Benz SLK300 that was heading north on North State Road 7 approaching Northwest 26th Street shortly before 2 a.m.  Deputies said the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a center median, entered the northbound lanes and then crashed head-on into a covered concrete bus stop.

The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead after being taken to Broward Health Medical Center.  Investigators believe the driver’s excessive speed was a contributing factor in the accident.
