News: Car collision in West Miami-Dade leaves 4 dead, 3 injured

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A car collision in West Miami-Dade left four people dead on New Year’s Day, reports WPLG.

The Florida Highway Patrol said two vehicles collided at the intersection of Northwest 79th Avenue and Flagler Street shortly before 4 a.m.

Investigators said the driver of a Hyundai Elantra was turning onto Flagler Street at a flashing red light and crashed into a Chevy Tahoe that was entering the intersection at a flashing yellow light.

Three men and one woman inside the Elantra were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Three 16-year-old boys in the Tahoe were hospitalized and were expected to recover.

Authorities are investigating whether drugs and alcohol, as well as excessive speed, played a role in the deadly wreck.
