BOCA RATON, FL – A car accident in Boca Raton early Sunday morning left five people dead, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The wreck occurred in the vicinity of Camino Real and Sanibel Drive near the Boca Del Mar development at about 12:35 a.m. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said 18-year-old Ramiro Gomez was driving a Hyundai Genesis at a high rate of speed when he lost control, entered a median and crashed into a light pole.

The vehicle then rolled out of the median and went into the westbound lanes of Camino Real, where it landed on top of a Mercedes C250, according to investigators.

Gomez and two 13-year-old passengers in the Genesis were pronounced dead at the scene.  The 58-year-old man driving the Mercedes and a 55-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center. Both were Boca Raton residents.

Five other passengers in the Genesis, ages 12 to 14, were hospitalized.  One was critically injured while the four others suffered serious injuries.

Police said alcohol and drugs were not believed to have been contributing factors in the accident.
