News: 85-year-old driver killed in Oakland Park collision

OAKLAND PARK, FL – The Broward Sheriff’s Office released details of a deadly crash that occurred earlier this month in Oakland Park.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene Jan. 3 at the intersection of Northeast 16th Avenue and East Oakland Park Boulevard at about 9:44 a.m.

Investigators determined that 85-year-old William O’Malley of Fort Lauderdale was driving a Toyota Camry when he turned into the path of a BMW, resulting in a collision.

O’Malley was transported to a nearby hospital, where his condition declined and he was eventually pronounced dead on Jan. 16.  No details were released on the condition of the BMW driver, 57-year-old Oscar D. Richards of Fort Lauderdale.

BSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
