News: 4 killed when car slams into wall in North Lauderdale

NORTH LAUDERDALE, FL – Authorities say a car crash in North Lauderdale on Saturday afternoon left four people dead.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the accident that took place in the area of Bailey Road and Rock Island Road shortly before 3:30 p.m.

A witness told detectives that the driver of a Nissan Rogue was speeding and ran a red light while headed west on Bailey Road.  The Rogue struck a Toyota Camry going east on Bailey Road that was attempting to turn onto Rock Island Road. The impact caused the Rogue to rotate and slide across the road, where it went onto a sidewalk and crashed into a concrete wall.

Three people inside the Rogue were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth died later at Broward Health Medical Center. Their identities were not released.

The driver of the Camry sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators said they consider excessive speed to have been a contributing factor in the wreck.
