News: 1 dead, 2 injured after vehicles collide at Dania Beach intersection

DANIA BEACH, FL – One person was killed and two others injured in a collision between two vehicles in Dania Beach Sunday night.

According to a news release from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near the intersection of East Sheridan Street and Southeast Second Avenue at about 8:41 p.m.

Traffic homicide detectives said the driver of a Toyota Corolla was trying to turn left from East Sheridan Street onto Southeast Second Avenue when she turned into the path of a Volkswagen Touareg heading west on East Sheridan Street, causing the vehicles to collide.

The passenger in the Corolla was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.  She was identified as 64-year-old Maria Martinez of Hollywood.

The two drivers were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators do not believe that excessive speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
