Monsanto Roundup Cancer Lawsuits

It’s shocking what evidence companies are willing to withhold in order to make a profit, and the agricultural giant Monsanto Co. is no exception. Monsanto Roundup has been widely used as it’s one of the best ways to eradicate weeds, but links to non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a form of blood cell cancer, have prompted more than 400 consumers who worked closely with the product and ultimately became sick due to it. These victims are farmers, farmhands, landscapers, and avid gardeners who had no idea the “all-purpose” herbicide was doing more than killing weeds.

Men and women of all ages who used Monsanto Roundup have come together after developing certain forms of cancer such as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma to sue the agricultural giant for the pain and suffering endured by the victims and surviving family members. There are now more than 5,000 claims across the country.

Our product liability lawyers in Miami have followed these lawsuits closely and are helping cancer survivors, and the loved ones of those who lost their lives because of the dangerous product hold Monsanto responsible and recover compensation for all of the expenses involved such as:

  • Wrongful death
  • Medical expenses
  • Rehabilitation costs such as physical therapy
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Pain and suffering

How Does Monsanto Roundup Lead to Cancer?

Monsanto Roundup is a weed killer containing glyphosate, a synthetic herbicide that works particularly well on perennial weeds. While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency believes there’s insufficient evidence that glyphosate leads to cancer, the World Health Organization (WHO) found otherwise. The conglomerate has always denied claims and told farmers and agricultural workers that Roundup is safe, but research studies and the WHO have uncovered substantial evidence to show that Roundup can lead to cancer and other severe, life-threatening health issues. A 2015 survey by WHO reached the conclusion that Roundup is “probably carcinogenic to humans.” Additionally, it’s likely Monsanto has known about the link between glyphosate and cancer for decades but chose to withhold this vital information putting lives at risk for profit.

In June 2018, U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria in San Francisco, California ruled that there is sufficient evidence to move forward with the Monsanto Roundup lawsuits, which have soared to more than 5,000 nationwide. Chhabria ruled that the experts Monsanto provided supplied “shaky” evidence which excluded the expert opinions of two other scientists. In August 2018, the jury awarded $289 million to Dewayne Johnsonwho was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after developing a bad rash using Monsanto Roundup. Though he is now near death, Johnson has paved the way for other victims of the potentially-deadly herbicide to seek reparations for the suffering caused by the burying of decades of data that suggested the link between cancer and glyphosate.
