Family of Miya Marcano Suing Apartment Complex Where She Worked

The family of a teen who authorities found dead in Orange County, Florida is filing suit against the apartment complex where she worked and lived.

WSVN.com reports that the family of 19-year-old Miya Marcano is alleging that various parties were negligent in connection with her death including “Arden Villas, its parent company The Preiss Company, and the estate of 27-year-old Armando Caballero.”

The suit alleges that management should have made Marcano aware that Caballero had a criminal history, a history of harassing women, and had access to her apartment.

Authorities say that Caballero used a master key to enter Marcano’s apartment, presumably due to romantic desires he had for her. The report says that he had attempted to initiate a romantic relationship with Marcano, but that she had declined his advances.

Caballero killed Marcano and then took his own life. Authorities found Marcano’s body several days later.

Marcano’s family has filed suit in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Orange County.
