Crash Leaves 8-Year-Old Dead and 5-Year-Old In Critical Condition

A serious auto crash has left a child and an elderly person dead, and another child in critical condition.

WFLA.com reports that authorities suspect that the crash was caused by a 27-year-old man who was drunk driving in Polk County when he crossed the center line on Lucerne Park Road and collided with another car. The suspected drunk driver crashed into the vehicle that the 70-year-old was driving, and in which the 8 and 5-year-old children were passengers.

The crash, which occurred at about 1:30 a.m., killed the 70-year-old driver and left the 8-year-old and 5-year-old with serious injuries. The 8-year-old later died at the hospital while the 5-year-old continues to be in serious condition.

According to Florida Highway Patrol charges against the 27-year-old driver are pending.
