Three people are dead after dense fog led to a series of crashes in Florida Thursday morning.

WSVN.com reports that 17 vehicles were involved in the collisions which occurred at about 1:30 a.m. in the area south of Daytona Beach. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol says that there were four crashes involving a total of 11 vehicles on the northbound side of I 95, and one six-vehicle crash on the southbound side.

The collisions were so serious that one tractor-trailer caught fire and set off a series of explosions, while another tractor-trailer crushed a vehicle.

In all, the crashes resulted in three deaths and multiple injuries, including a child who authorities airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in stable condition.
