Sarasota County Trolley Strikes and Kills Bicyclist in Siesta Key

A Sarasota County trolley stuck and killed a bicyclist in Siesta Key on Monday.

Patch.com reports that the crash occurred at about 1:30 pm Monday as the bicyclist and the trolley were both traveling southbound on Midnight Pass Road at Stickney Point Road. The bicyclist reportedly turned in front of the trolley, causing the trolley to crash into the bicyclist. The collision threw the bicyclist from his bike, resulting in serious injuries.

Sarasota County emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene.

Though Florida Highway Patrol has not released the identity of the bicyclist, FHP has identified him as a 74-year-old man. The driver of the trolley, which is operated by Sarasota County Area Transit, has been identified as a 42-year-old woman.
