John H. (Jack) Hickey

John H. (Jack) Hickey is an award-winning attorney who was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After graduating magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State University, Jack earned his Juris Doctor from Duke Law School in 1980. He was admitted to The Florida Bar the same year and represented cruise lines, railroads, and other self-insured corporations for the first 17 years of his career, before making the transition to representing plaintiffs.

Attorney Jack Hickey is double board certified by The Florida Bar in Civil Trial and Admiralty and Maritime Law, which are distinctions held by few attorneys in Florida. Jack is a Past President of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA), the largest voluntary bar association in Florida. He is currently on the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and Board of Directors of the Florida Justice Association (FJA). Jack is a former State Delegate of AAJ and is a past member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors, the governing body of all lawyers licensed to practice in Florida.

Jack is also Past Chair of the largest section of AAJ, the Motor Vehicle, Highway Safety, and Premises Liability Section. He is the current Chair-Elect of the Premises Liability Section. He is the Past Chair of seven DCBA committees, Past Chair of three Florida Bar Committees, and has received 17 Certificates of Merit from the DCBA "for outstanding and constructive service to the bench, the bar, and the public.”

He has received three certificates from The Florida Bar "in recognition and appreciation of meritorious service to the public and legal profession in Florida and has received a Certificate of Recognition from the Florida Council of Bar Association Presidents for "dedicated leadership to the members of the legal community during service as President."

John H. (Jack) Hickey is on the Board of Directors of The Florida Justice Association (FJA). Directors of FJA pledge to make meaningful contributions to the Association by setting an example of leadership, committing time and energy to the Association’s activities, and providing personal and financial support.

The American Association for Justice (AAJ) selected Jack has a State Delegate, which is the liaison between the AAJ Board of Governors and FJA. It is the responsibility of the State Delegates to assist the Board of Governors in attaining the objectives of AAJ by carrying out specific programs assigned to them by the Board of Governors or the President.

Jack is a Board Member of the Southern Legal Counsel (SLC), a Florida statewide not-for-profit public interest law firm that assists individuals and groups with public interest issues who otherwise would not have access to the justice system and whose cases may bring about systemic reform. He’s also a member of ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates, whose mission is to improve the ethical and technical standards in the legal profession and to aid in further education and training of trial lawyers. Membership is by invitation only and requires a 75% affirmative vote by both the chapter Executive Committee and the National Board of ABOTA.
