Troubled Brightline Train Claims Another South Florida Life

Since South Florida’s Brightline train launched test runs in 2018, the high speed locomotives have been involved in many incidents including crashes resulting in property damage, bodily injury, and even death.

It seems like every few weeks another report comes out about a Brightline crash. Most of the incidents involve vehicles being struck while on the train tracks. But in the most recent incident a pedestrian was struck by a train.

WSVN.com reports that late last month a pedestrian was struck along the railroad tracks near Taft Street. The train that struck the victim stopped approximately 700 feet from the victim’s body the report indicated.

The victim was killed in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search of “Brightline train accident” on Google.com returns numerous results, including:

  • A video titled “Deadly Crash Involving Brightline Train” dated March 21, 2019
  • A video titled “Brightline releases video of fatal train accident” dated January 23, 2018
  • A video titled “Brightline train involved in accident in Lantana” dated November 19, 2019

More must be done to keep motorists and pedestrians safe as the trains move through South Florida.
