News: Fuel truck crash in Pompano Beach shuts down lanes on I-95

POMPANO BEACH, FL – Rush hour traffic was snarled in Broward County Monday morning after a crash involving a fuel truck on I-95 in Pompano Beach.

WPLG reports a driver lost control and crashed into the gas tanker truck in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Copans Road just after 1 a.m. The collision caused the truck to flip onto its side and leak about 9,000 gallons of fuel onto the roadway.  The Florida Highway Patrol said the tanker also hit a light pole that fell onto the interstate, leading to a three-vehicle crash.

The driver of the truck and the driver who caused the initial crash both sustained minor injuries.  The three drivers involved in the second collision were hospitalized but there was no word on the extent of their injuries.

All lanes of I-95 were shut down in both directions between Atlantic Boulevard and Sample Road, while Copans Road was also closed under I-95.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area and look for alternate routes.
