News: Authorities searching for driver in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea hit-and-run crash

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it is asking for the public’s help in tracking down the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash last month.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said the incident happened near the 4400 block of North Ocean Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea on June 4 shortly before 10 p.m.

The driver of a U-Haul box truck went off the roadway near the intersection with Commercial Boulevard, and the vehicle struck a man walking on the sidewalk with his wife.  The pedestrian was seriously injured and taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

Investigators determined that the U-Haul fled the scene heading west on Commercial Boulevard. A witness was able to get the vehicle’s tag number, and the truck was later found unoccupied.

Any witnesses or anyone else who might have information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office Lauderdale-By-The-Sea detectives or Broward Crime Stoppers.
