A man was recently sentenced to prison for a fatal hit-and-run that killed a University of Central Florida student.

WFLA.com reports that 26-year-old Yousuf Hasan was condemned to serve 12 years in prison on Wednesday, as a result of the 2019 crash that killed 21-year-old London Harrell. Hasan reportedly ran over a curb and struck Harrell as she was walking from a bar along a grassy part of the shoulder.

Following the collision, Hasan failed a field sobriety test and was arrested.

Hasan pleaded no contest to leaving the scene of a crash involving death. His sentence includes 8 years of probation and 120 hours of community service. He will also lose his license for five years after he leaves prison.

In court, Hasan expressed his regret and said that he thinks of Harrell every day.
