This Week’s Cruise Related Stories Teach An Important Lesson

Two of the major cruise travel related headlines this week related to couples being left by cruise ships in foreign countries. And though the circumstances surrounding the incidences could not have been more different, together they teach an important lesson about cruise travel.

Earlier this week we reported on the Palks, who were abandoned in Mexico by Royal Caribbean when Mrs. Palk was having a medical emergency. Unable to assist her aboard the ship, the company forced the couple to disembark in Mexico and find their own medical treatment, and their own way home.

Couple Shares Tale of Being Left in Mexico by Royal Caribbean During Medical Emergency

When Carol Palk noticed blood in her stool while sailing on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas cruise ship last month, she suspected that she may have been suffering from a bleeding ulcer. Concerned, she visited the ship’s infirmary for help. Palk was not able to see a doctor that day due to an excess of patients, and so returned the next day. That is when she discovered that she may have been suffering from a more serious medical condition, one which the cruise ship doctors were not equipped to handle. Bertram says that she was then ordered off the ship.

Cruise Ship Collision Continues Cruise Industry Woes

In recent weeks the cruise industry has suffered a number of negative news stories. Perhaps the most concerning of the incidences, until now, was when a cruise ship struck a pier in Puerto Rico. The ship was initially en route to the British Virgin Islands when it began to suffer mechanical issues. After the ship rerouted to Puerto Rico, it struck a morning while pulling into port, causing damage and ruining the vacations of those aboard. Now, the industry is battling another negative story, after two ships collided in Buenos Aires.
