South Carolina resident Stephanie Manning and her family were aboard the Carnival Sunshine cruise ship when it suddenly tilted on its side late last month. She recently told her story to News Channel 2.
The report says that about four hours into the cruise the ship tilted to its side without warning, and stayed that way for about 3 – 5 minutes. Manning reports seeing people falling, even as she fell against a wall. Her family, along with many of the ship’s thousands of passengers, began to panic, thinking the ship was going to sink.
Manning says that people were hurt and “fighting for their lives” during the incident, which Carnival blames on a technical malfunction.
Despite the fact that Manning insists people were hurt, Carnival issued a statement saying that the safe operation of the ship was never in jeopardy.
