FIGHTING FOR THE SAFETY OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY

"I give the Hickey law firm my highest recommendation for a personal injury law firm in Miami! They are very professional, personable and passionate about what they do!"

-Paul Rebein, Rebein Brothers Law Firm

“Yes, I endorse Jack Hickey for re-election to the Florida Board of Governors. Jack is the type of lawyer I strive to become one day. He cares about his clients, colleagues and the community. He has the courage to speak up for those unable or incapable of having a voice. He is the exact type of lawyer we need as our representative. He is the peoples lawyer, representing individuals in their greatest time of need. When all hope is lost Jack somehow finds a way to guide his clients through the murky waters of litigation and aids in his clients putting their lives back together. Jack is a leader in several significant organizations in the community. He doesn't simply write a check and take a pictures shaking hands. Jack gives his time and mentorship to anyone that he can make a difference with. We need more Jack Hickeys in the Florida Bar, but now more than ever we need him to be re-elected to the Florida Board of Governors.”

Words from Diana Santa Maria, current member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors

Jack cares... I have served with him on the Board of Governors for the past couple of years. He serves his circuit with distinction and courage. He deserves to be re-elected. If you are a practicing attorney in the 11th Circuit of Florida please remember to vote for him in the run-off election.

Words from Michael Haggard, Past President of  the Florida Justice Association:

Jack is the only trial lawyer, FJA member (and Eagle member) on the Board of Governors from Miami.  And Jack was a leader last year in the charge against Reciprocity and Daubert. Jack is one of the signatories on a letter comment recently submitted to the Supreme Court of Florida opposing the adoption of Daubert.
Thanks.

Words from Tony Castro, Past President of The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA):

Friends:
I am pleased to endorse my friend John H. (Jack) Hickey for re-election to Seat 7 of the Board of Governors.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jack on various Bar activities, and I have been impressed by his commitment to our profession. Jack is a Past President of the DCBA and has held numerous leadership positions in the DCBA and the Florida Bar before he even ran for election to the Board of Governors. He is a long-time and active member of CABA, as well as other voluntary bar associations, and I hope that you will join me in supporting him.
However you choose to vote, I urge you to vote for Jack Hickey for re-election to Seat 7 of the Board of Governors. Thank you.
Regards,
Tony

Words from Manny Crespo Jr., Past President of The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA):
Dear Friends:

I support and endorse John H. (Jack) Hickey in his re-election for Board of Governors in Seat 7. As many of you may already know, the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) has a non-voting seat on the Board of Governors. As president of CABA in 2015, I had the privilege of serving in that seat and saw, firsthand, Jack’s dedication to Bar service and his engagement on the many important issues facing our profession today. He has a long history of bar leadership, not the least of which was serving as president of the Dade County Bar Association. His attention to and involvement with other bar associations, including CABA, of which he has been an active member for over 10 years, is exemplary and speaks to his sincere interest in the advancement of all lawyers.

Jack is a highly accomplished colleague and is board certified in two areas of practice. He is a full-time practitioner who understands and shares in our concerns about changes that impact our Bar here in Florida. He is someone we NEED on the Board and I ask that you join me in making sure we keep him there.
All my best,
Manny

Words from Josh Wintle, President of the Young Lawyers Section of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) and Past-President of the South Miami Kendall Bar Association:

Friends and colleagues,
I would like to take a moment to ask you to vote in the upcoming run-off election for the Florida Bar Board of Governors, Seat 7. The run off starts this Friday, April 1 for electronic voting and continues next week when people will  begin receiving paper ballots.
As you may know, The Board of Governors decides many important issues affecting lawyers throughout the state. The 52 attorney-members of The Board handle revision of the Rules of Court, The Florida Bar’s budget, creation and closing of Bar programs, and attorney discipline.  These are issues on which we need the representation of qualified, experienced attorneys. Board certification is a strong signifier of an attorney’s experience and qualifications.

Jack Hickey is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in 2 areas: Civil Trial and Admiralty and Maritime. Jack is a good choice for Seat 7 for many reasons. As a former President of the Dade County Bar Association, Jack is the only candidate running for Seat 7 who has been a president of any bar association. Jack is the only one running in Seat 7 who practices law full time. And, Jack is the only candidate for Seat 7 who is Board Certified in any area.

When I consider the attorney I would like representing my, my clients’, and my colleagues’ interests in deciding the issues that the Board of Governors faces, I would like representation by an actively practicing attorney who sees individual clients on a regular basis.
Jack represents all of the lawyers in Miami-Dade County and in Florida.  That is why starting this Friday, April 1, I ask that you vote for John H. (Jack) Hickey, for reelection to Seat 7 of the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar.
Sincerely,
Josh Wintle

Friends,

These start on Friday when electronic ballots will be sent out.  There are two seats still in play.  I would ask that you consider voting for Jack Hickey (the incumbent) for one seat and Deborah Baker-Egozi for the other.  Both are excellent candidates who will represent all attorneys practicing in Miami-Dade County very well.  They both have excellent track records and have handled civil litigation and business litigation from both the plaintiffs and the defendants perspective.  They were also both the front-runners in the elections that lead to the run-off.  I have known and worked with both for many years (in the case of Jack, since the day I started practicing at Hornsby & Whisenand, August 31, 1987, where Jack was a senior associate and one of my early mentors).  Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request.

-Merrick (Rick) Gross, Past President of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA).

Past President of The Florida Bar, Herman J. Russomanno, says “Jack is and has been an outstanding Governor….As a past president of The Florida Bar, I cannot think of anyone who is more deserving of being re-elected than Jack.”

"It was wonderful to spend some time with friend and fellow trial lawyer Jack Hickey at the American Association for Justice winter meeting. I am proud to endorse his election to the Florida bar board of governors. He has done an extraordinary job and will continue to do so."

-Julie Braman Kane

Past President of Miami-Dade FAWL, President-Elect of American Association for Justice, Board Member of The Florida Justice Association

"I have known Jack for 30 years; he is the right person for the job. Jack is a veteran, hard-working trial lawyer who has proven leadership capabilities. Jack is a Past President of the Dade County Bar Association, an Eagle member of both the American Association for Justice and Florida Justice Association, and otherwise gives generously of his time for public service. In short, he is everything we want in a Governor."

- Robert J. Fiore

Past President of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) and Miami Dade Trial Lawyers Association (MDTLA)

"I have known Jack Hickey for 17 years; he is a working lawyer and well-deserving member of the Board of Governors, whom I strongly urge you to vote for in this election. Jack has consistently looked out for the interest of lawyers who are in the trenches every day and we need him to continue his good work. I can tell you that he is a man of the highest integrity and character, a tireless worker and a champion for other working lawyers who actually practice law. He has represented the little guy and is an advocate for the poor, the disenfranchised and other victims. He stands for courage and justice and equal rights under the law for his clients and for other lawyers who practice in this state, protecting their interests and their rights. Moreover, he has worked to keep the highest standards of the Florida Bar by fighting for our membership. I urge you to give him your vote."

-David S. Wieder, Esq.

Past Treasurer of the American Jewish Committee and Chair of the Historic Preservation of the City of Miami Beach

"I would like you all to please consider voting for my good friend Jack Hickey today for Florida Bar Board of Governors. Jack is a fantastic lawyer and an even better person. He has been fighting for the working lawyer on the Board of Governors for a while now, and we are all the better for it."

-Richard L. Barbara

Attorney at Law, Alvarez Barbara, LLP

"I am writing to strongly encourage you to vote to Re-Elect respected Miami attorney John "Jack" Hickey for another term. When the Florida Bar President and Board of Governors debated the controversial "Reciprocity" proposal last year, Jack Hickey demonstrated admirable courage and leadership by working to defeat this damaging policy. Although the Board of Governors ultimately voted unanimously to defeat Reciprocity in October 2015, this outcome was far from certain when the Bar President strongly advocated for Reciprocity during his induction speech last June. Jack Hickey immediately recognized how damaging Reciprocity would be to The Florida Bar and to Florida Citizens-- and he had the courage and strength of conviction to speak out against Reciprocity when others remained silent. The "Reciprocity" movement is not dead. There are members of The Board of Governors who still want to revive this damaging proposal-- despite the wishes of the vast majority of Florida lawyers. Jack has more than 30 years of experience as a successful trial lawyer since graduating from Duke University School of Law, he is Past President of the Dade County Bar Association, and is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and Admiralty Law. Most Importantly, Jack has been fighting to protect the interests of all Florida lawyers-- especially sole practitioners and small law firms- and the integrity of The Florida Bar for the past eight years on The Board of Governors and it is critically important that Jack be re-elected to continue his great work."

-Lloyd R. Schwed

Partner at Schwed Kahle & Kress, P.A.

"I agree that Jack Hickey is the "Best of the Best" and makes us all proud to be lawyers!"

-Richard A. Bokor

"All. Jack Hickey is a fellow Board of Governors member from your circuit who is fighting to retain his seat on the Board. Jack is a good man who has represented the attorney's of the Miami area exceptionally well for a number of years. Please vote for him and urge your Miami colleagues to do the same. I would appreciate it. Thanks much."

– Wayne L. Helsby, Current member of The Board of Governors of The Florida Bar

“I am urging all trial lawyers in the 11th Circuit to support and vote for my friend John H. (Jack) Hickey, Trial Lawyer, for the Fla. Bar Board of Governors.  We need on the Board experienced trial lawyers, lawyers who have proven leadership capabilities and lawyers who are in the trenches every day.  Jack is that lawyer… Now we need him more than ever on the Board of Governors”
– Robert J. Fiore, Past President of the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) and Miami Dade Trial Lawyers Association (MDTLA)

“As a fellow member on the Bar’s Board of Governors I support Jack’s bid for re-election. Jack is a hard working Board Member who always strives to do the right thing for our profession, our clients and our constituents. He deserves to be re-elected”
– Diana Santa Maria, Current member of The Board of Governors of The Florida Bar
“You have my vote, of course. You are a truly dedicated lawyer. I urge all my attorney friends to cast their votes for you.”
– David Wieder, Past chair of Florida Bar Grievance Committee, Past chair of the DCBA Mediation Committee,  Past Treasurer of the American Jewish Committee, Chair of the Historic Preservation Board of the City of Miami Beach

I have known Jack Hickey for 25+ years.  He is a person of integrity, with a high sense of honor and justice, who will work for the greater good of all Florida lawyers and its citizens.
