Vehicle Defects Overview
Vehicle defects can significantly increase the likelihood of being involved in an auto accident. Some of the most common vehicle-related defective products that can lead to auto accidents are reviewed below.
Defective Tires
Defective tires are one of the leading automotive components that can cause a car accident. In tires that are poorly manufactured, the belts can slip or separate causing the tire to lose air rapidly. When this happens, the driver may be unable to maintain control of the vehicle. Sometimes the defect is not in the tires, but in the installation of the tires. An improper installation of a tire could cause a large cut to be put into a tire causing a severe accident.
Vehicle Rollover
Vehicle rollover is predominately associated with vehicles that have a high center of gravity, such as SUVs. The high center of gravity makes the vehicles less stable than other types of vehicles, which can make sudden or evasive maneuvers very dangerous. Additionally, this problem is often exacerbated by the poor roof structure of many vehicles. In this scenario, the roof structure of the vehicle is not strong enough to keep the roof from crushing in on the occupants of the vehicle in the event of a rollover accident.
Transmission Defects
The unintentional movement of a car from park to reverse is another automotive defect that can cause a car accident. These types of accidents are caused by the transmission gears of a car slipping from a parked position into a reverse position. This causes the vehicle to roll backwards without warning. This defect could not only cause property damage, but severe bodily injury should someone be behind the car when this event occurs.
Contact an Attorney
