Ocala has suffered its fifth traffic fatality in two days after a single-vehicle accident on Sunday claimed a life on the Interstate. The fatality, which also injured two children, occurred after a man flipped his can on 1-95.
The driver, identified as John H. Rogers, 61, of Lady Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two children, identified as 7 year-old Ashlyn Kubusheski, and 6 year-old Casey Kubusheski, were injured in the accident. Both children were rushed to Shands at the University of Florida. While Ashlyn was taken by ambulance, Casey’s condition was considered critical. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter where his condition was later upgraded from critical to serious.
In another accident, which occurred 14 miles north of Ocala, 11 cars were involved in a multiple car pileup which caused 14 injuries.
The crash occurred between mile markers 358 and 360 at 2:23 p.m. Thankfully, there were no deaths reported, but reports indicate that eight patients were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. The other six injuries were able to be treated at the scene.
The cause of the crash and a list of the injured are still being investigated and compiled by the Florida Highway Patrol.
